A CLUB WITH HISTORY

In 1925 two gentlemen, Mr F.S. Price and Mr. H Groslett, decided that Hatch End needed a tennis club. They formed the Hatch End Lawn Tennis Co. Ltd. and collected enough money from 28 local residents to start the project. The Directors delegated to a Committee the responsibility of governing and regulating the use of the Club, which was then styled The Hatch End Hard Courts Lawn Tennis Club.

There is room for 8 tennis courts and a pavilion. Initially 6 courts were completed in 1926 and the club has provided top-class tennis facilities for generations of local people at its secluded and attractive premises off Clonard Way.

Club honurs board

The club is non-commercial and is managed and run by the members. It benefits greatly from the decision by members in 1946 to acquire the freehold of the site. It has endeavoured to develop the facilities at the club to enable it to compete with other clubs yet to maintain its unique family atmosphere enhanced by the original, but greatly improved, wooden clubhouse.

In 2015 the club celebrated its ninetieth anniversary with a dinner dance at the Grimsdyke Golf Club. We are looking forward to our 100th year celebration. Who knows, perhaps a future Wimbledon Champion will be nurtured in this friendly, family club.
